Dricus Du Plessis sends a message to his critics after his victory at UFC 297

Dricus Du Plessis sent a message to people who didn’t believe in him after his coronation as UFC world champion.

On Saturday night, Dricus Du Plessis (21-2) challenged middleweight champion Sean Strickland (28-6) for the UFC world title. The event took place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada. Du Plessis was on a six-fight winning streak in the UFC, including a TKO over Robert Whittaker in July 2023.

During 5 rounds, Strickland and Du Plessis fought a close fight. In the end, it was the challenger who won by split decision and captured the title (see the summary). For many observers, including UFC CEO Dana White, it was Strickland who should have emerged victorious.

On his social networks, the new champion, DDP, wanted to thank his supporters… and tackled his detractors at the same time.

“History is written!” Thank you to everyone who believed in me and their incredible support. Those who didn’t…well, that makes you look like idiots! »

After his victory, Dricus Du Plessis said he wanted to face his rival, former champion Israel Adesanya. The latter also reacted. In the future, Sean Strickland could also face Izzy, whom he beat by unanimous decision after total domination at UFC 293.
