Francis Ngannou will return to the ring later this year to face former world champion Anthony Joshua.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou will look to score his first professional boxing victory against one of the biggest names in the sport. Ngannou’s boxing career was launched in shocking fashion when he nearly beat Tyson Fury in his debut last year in Riyadh. He scored a massive knockdown during the fight and narrowly lost on the judges’ cards. Despite the official result, Ngannou won in the eyes of many boxing fans and is largely rewarded for his efforts with another high-profile fight. He is still expected to make his PFL debut later in the year, against an opponent to be determined.

Combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani reported Friday that Francis Ngannou will face Anthony Joshua in a 10-round boxing bout later this year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight is scheduled for March 9, as MMA Junkie reports. Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has won three consecutive fights in 2023. He most recently defeated Otto Wallin in Riyadh last month, after notching back-to-back victories over Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius.

Ngannou vs. Joshua adds to what should be another exciting year for boxing. Fury will face Usyk on February 17 in another major heavyweight fight. The winners of Ngannou vs. Joshua and Fury vs. Usyk could meet in late 2024. Regardless, the heavyweight division continues to be talked about in and out of the ring.
