Colby Covington opened up about a fight he dreams of making before retiring. And also mentioned a second one.
Colby Covington is hot as hell right now. Indeed, he has to face Leon Edwards at UFC 296 for the welterweight belt, he has already provoked and called Edwards a coward at the beginning of October, and yesterday, he sent him a nice warning. One thing is certain, he is motivated for this fight.
However, Covington is already looking beyond UFC 296 and addressed what his dream UFC fight would be before hanging up his mitts (via BJ Penn):
“The number one, for sure, is Islam Makhachev. It’s the fight that pays off. It needs to be fixed. The United States against Russia. It’s the theme of Rocky IV. Rocky versus Drago. Everyone talks about him like he’s the best of both worlds. Against me, he will see a real fighter. He has to stop playing on weight, making a huge cut to have an advantage over people, and he has to come and see the champion of America. He has to come see Donald Trump’s favorite fighter. See you soon, Islam.
The luck for Covington is that Islam Makhachev has also already said that he would not be against a fight with the American, if he had the welterweight title around his waist. This dream fight can therefore happen one day, even if, according to Covington, Islam Makhachev is afraid of moving up to welterweight.
Subsequently, Covington also admitted that he would like to fight against Dustin Poirier, in order to get revenge:
“I also want to fight a guy named Dustin Soreier. He’s the one who got me kicked out of my old gym by crying and having feelings, saying, ‘oh, Colby is a mean person.’ I would love to fight Dustin Soreier, but he is afraid of me and my shadow. I will never be able to fight him because he is simply afraid.”
We therefore know the two dream fights of Colby Covington, with a preference for Islam Makhachev. But let’s not also forget Conor McGregor, who is also in the back of Colby’s mind…
