Headlining UFC 294, Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski faced off in a historic rematch. The Russian retained his lightweight throne.
Ten days before the event, Alexander Volkanovski agreed to replace the injured Charles Oliveira to challenge the lightweight champion in a heated revenge. In the first fight against Makhachev at UFC 284, the Australian lost by unanimous decision after a very close match. It was therefore the last chance for ‘The Great’ to snatch the lightweight title, and thus become a double champ.

Round 1: The two athletes fight in a clinch at first. Standing, they exchange strikes before the fight changes. With a magnificent high kick, Islam Makhachev hits the Australian, and the latter immediately falls. The Dagestani sent a few strikes to the ground before the referee stopped the fight.
