Kamaru Usman is not afraid of Khamzat Chimaev for his fight at UFC 294, far from it. Here he explains why.
Kamaru Usman is ultra-motivated. After explaining how the fight against Khamzat Chimaev was organized, he returned to this future confrontation. He actually accepted this fight on short notice, to replace Paulo Costa, who must undergo another operation for staphylococcus. Additionally, this fight will give the winner a shot at the middleweight title against Sean Strickland.
Kamaru Usman detailed Khamzat Chimaev’s strengths, but also gave him a warning (via TMZ Sports):
Nigerian fighter Usman listen to what he said about the wolf Hamza Chimaev: He is definitely talented so there is a lot of enthusiasm around him
There is something special about him
We all know that
I know that, and he knows that, and everyone knows
He has skill and strength pic.twitter.com/bkWwUhTSnG— mmamag.ma (@jamalsoussi10) October 16, 2023
” He is very talented. He is strong, he is big. He’s fast, he can wrestle, he can grapple, he can punch. He has everything he needs…but so do I. At the end of the day, we are all human beings. Everyone feels invincible until someone pops the balloon. »
Kamaru Usman knows, however, that it really won’t be fun and doesn’t even agree to look further, particularly towards the potential chance at the middleweight title that would be offered to him in the event of victory:
“We shouldn’t go too fast, I mean it’s obvious. I have a mountain in front of me that I must climb. We will cross it first and then we will worry about the rest. »
Usman has a head on his shoulders, which is a change from certain fighters who often project themselves further before even having had their fight. If he was going to fight Sean Strickland for the title, it would then be a rematch for the middleweight champion, since he lost to the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ at UFC 210 in 2017… That goes back!
