Alistair Overeem appeared publicly with a svelte physique, which even made fans of the Glory fighter wonder.
Alistair Overeem was fired by the UFC in early 2021, following his loss to Alexander Volkov. He has since fought in Glory, kickboxing, a trilogy fight against Badr Hari and won. This all happened last October.
But his joy was short-lived, as a few weeks after the fight, Overeem tested positive for doping and thus, his win was turned into a no-contest. Since then, Alistair Overeem has not made any appearance on the media scene.
But recently, photos of him were posted on social media by Nobuyuki Sakakibara, the former PRIDE leader and RIZIN president, and the heavyweight appeared slimmer than usual. Some fans wondered about a weight class change for the ‘Demolition Man’ and others wondered if he was sick. Watch below (Instagram credit Nobuyuki Sakakibara):
“Alistair Overeem looks slim!” The Dutch legend met with RIZIN CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara last weekend,’ Beyond Kickboxing said on Twitter.
“He is currently serving a suspension, but is rumored to return for the GLORY Heavyweight Grand Prix in December, with $500,000 on the line.”
‘He looks like he’s sick,’ said another.
‘I hope he’s OK,’ said a third.
Other fans put Overeem’s leaner look down to him finally being off banned substances, which he tested positive for several times in his career.
Overeem was cut from the UFC in 2021 after a knockout loss to Alexander Volkov at UFC Vegas 18 in 2021.
Still involved in combat sports, Overeem has been competing as a pro for nearly 25 years in some of the biggest organisations including PRIDE, Strikeforce, Dream, K-1, GLORY and the UFC.
The striking specialist has taken on some of biggest names in the sport, including Fabricio Werdum, Mark Hunt, Mirko Cro Cop, Frank Mir and Stipe Miocic.
For now, it is not yet known when Alistair Overeem will be back, but it will not be before October, considering that he was suspended for one year last October.
