Beneil Dariush and Irene Aldana react to their loss

Defeated at UFC 289, lightweight Beneil Darish and bantamweight fighter Irene Aldana have spoken out about their recent loss.

UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush saw his eight-fight win streak go up in smoke after falling to former 155-pound champion Charles Oliveira in the UFC 289 co-main event last weekend (Sat., June 10, 2023) at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

This weekend, Beneil Dariush lost by TKO in the 1st round against former 155-pound champion Charles Oliveira in the co-main event of UFC 289 (see the finish here). Dariush therefore suffered a bitter setback when he was ranked number 4 in the division and he hoped to land a title fight.

Despite this, the 34-year-old fighter, who remained on an excellent streak of 8 consecutive victories, does not seem to lose sight of his objective. Dariush is determined to get back to the top level in order to realign himself in the race for the -70kg belt.

” I’m doing well. I will get better and I will be back, ”he wrote on social networks the day after his defeat.

The UFC 289 main event featured the greatest fighter in MMA history, Amanda Nunes. The two-time champion defended her bantamweight belt by outclassing Irene Aldana (see recap here). After the announcement of her victory, the Brazilian took off her gloves and announced her retirement.

Beaten by unanimous decision of the judges, Aldana does not hide his disappointment about this missed title shot. Nevertheless, like Dariush, the young woman is determined to come back stronger in the hope of landing a new opportunity.

“It was an honor to face Amanda Nunes. She is an incredible athlete and fighter,” the Mexican fighter wrote on Instagram.

“I’m sorry for disappointing my coaches and all of you, I assure you it won’t stay like this… It was a bad night. The goal is always clear and the objective is always that belt… I promised you that and I will keep that promise… whatever the cost. »
