Chris Curtis suffered a cut to his right eyelid during a fight against Nassourdine Imavov. The fight was called off after the second round due to the injury. Curtis took to social media to reveal the extent of his injuries and apologize to his Canadian fans.
Chris Curtis, the number 14 middleweight, reacts following the unfortunate outcome of his meeting against the tricolor fighter, Nassourdine Imavov.
Tonight, Nassourdine Imavov and Chris Curtis squared off on the preliminary card for UFC 289 in Vancouver. Curtis, who was fresh off a tight loss to Kelvin Gastelum, was largely outplayed in the first round of the fight.
As Imavov seemed to continue his momentum in the second round, an accidental clash of heads caused a severe cut above the American’s eye. Unfortunately for the two athletes, the referee was forced to put an end to a fight which therefore ended in a no-contest.
Chris Curtis, who was hoping to return to victory following his last setback, did not hide his frustration following this result. The middleweight also gave news of his cut. And apologized to his fans a few hours after the meeting.
“10 stitches and a possible corneal abrasion. Sorry guys…seriously I was never unable to continue,” Curtis wrote on Instagram. While posting a picture of his injury… “I feel sorry for Canada, you have always been my biggest supporters and I really wanted to put on a show. »
Curtis’ friend and teammate Sean Strickland, another UFC middleweight member, also reacted. The American simply shared the photo of the cut along with the description “Damn…”. Indeed, this is certainly not the outcome that Chris Curtis or Nassourdine Imavov wanted for this fight.
