In the main event of the evening, Marvin Vettori, then ranked number 3 in middleweight, faced number 4, Jared Cannonier. The Italian remained on a balanced record of 2-2 in his last four fights having won by decision over Roman Dolidze in his previous appearance in the Octagon. Facing him, Cannonier was also looking to pick up a second straight win after beating division number 7 Sean Strickland.
The card’s co-main event featured the lightweight category in a clash between number 8 Arman Tsarukyan and Joaquim Silva. After losing to Mateusz Gamrot after a close fight, the Armenian bounced back by beating Damir Ismagulov by unanimous decision. Tsarukyan was therefore looking for another victory in order to line up in the title race.
