UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski’s quest to be a two-division champion could soon become a reality, with the Australian announcing he will be the backup fighter for the lightweight title bout at UFC 280.

The 34-year-old Wollongong native is ranked No. 1 in the official pound-for-pound rankings, hasn’t lost a fight since 2013 – and soon may add the lightweight crown to his featherweight title to bolster his growing legacy.
Volkanovski revealed on his YouTube channel and Twitter that he will be on standby if Charles Oliveira or Islam Makhachev can not make it to the main event later this month in Abu Dhabi.
