Tom Aspinall thinks Jon Jones should surrender his title

Tom Aspinall attacked Jon Jones this weekend and especially his title. Here’s what he doesn’t understand about it.

Tom Aspinall became the interim UFC heavyweight champion by defeating Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 with a stunning knockout. He had this opportunity after Jon Jones’ injury and therefore the cancellation of the fight between ‘Bones’ and Stipe Miocic.

Now, while Tom Aspinall has already made it clear that he wants Jon Jones, he attacked the reigning champion by not understanding why he still had his belt (via YouTube):

“Jon Jones should be stripped of his title, to be honest, because everyone else is when they get hurt like that. Why does he still have it? I don’t understand… I should be the real champion right now.”

“If he is hurt, let him go” For the moment, the UFC has not moved from its initial position: as soon as Jon Jones is back on his feet, and despite Aspinall’s victory, the promotion wants to reorganize the fight between its heavyweight champion and Stipe Miocic. And that too, Tom Aspinall doesn’t understand why:

“It’s hard to say without sounding rude, but who cares anymore about Jon Jones and Stipe. Why do we have this inheritance fight? And they can do it by their own rules? What is a legacy fight – a retirement fight for a title? I want to fight Stipe and then Jon Jones. I think all this other stuff is bullshit. Stop protecting him now, stop protecting your son Jon Jones at the top. If he gets hurt, let him go and I’ll fight Stipe.”

It’s certain, Tom Aspinall is not happy with the path the UFC is taking regarding the heavyweight belt and will do everything to make the promotion change its mind and strip Jon Jones of his title. Will he get there? That’s another story.
