New UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is ready to box if he can’t fight in the octagon.
The British fighter is fresh off his return opposite Sergei Pavlovich last month at UFC 295. Famously, Tom Aspinall only stepped in on short notice, following the cancelation of Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic. In the interim title fight earlier this month, the Brit scored a first-round knockout win.
Tom Aspinall is the new interim UFC heavyweight champion. During the co-main event of UFC 295, the British fighter inflicted a first-round knockout on Sergei Pavlovich. The fight between the two men was organized on short notice after the pectoral injury of the defending champion, Jon Jones. The latter was supposed to face Stipe Miocic during the main event of the event to attempt a first title defense at heavyweight.
Recently, Tom Aspinall attacked Jon Jones, saying he should be stripped of his title. So he could fight Stipe Miocic while waiting for ‘Bones’ to return. However, if the UFC cannot keep him active, Aspinall has one idea in mind: the Briton wants to box. He spoke in an interview with Fight Disciples.
Tom Aspinall in English boxing?
“Let’s do it.” I want to be active in MMA, I’m healthy. Absolutely, I will, if I can get through the UFC, I will (go to boxing, editor’s note). That’s why I think it’s a good idea, I really like it. If the UFC allows me to do it, I will do it. I want to be active. I had a year off with my knee injury. I came back, if I may say so, and I looked pretty good in the two fights I’ve had since. »
He continued: “I’m in a really good place right now, let’s keep moving forward. I don’t want to wait for Jon Jones. Who knows if he will come back or not? I will fight another contender, or we will do one of them. It is an excellent idea. »
Tom Aspinall is the former training partner of WBC world champion, Tyson Fury. Although he has a huge size, the Briton manages to be mobile and fast. On top of that, he has fire in his fists. In the ring, there is no doubt that Tom Aspinall would have his card to play.
