Former UFC champion Michael Bisping believes Tom Aspinall is capable of beating Jon Jones after making an emphatic return from injury at UFC London: “I don’t think anybody can stop Tom Aspinall, he’s that good, that switched on and he’s just a great guy as well.”
Tom Aspinall will go all the way and can even beat Jon Jones in MMA, or so a former UFC champion thinks.
The Manchester fighter recently marked his comeback from a knee injury with a devastating first-round TKO victory over Marcin Tybura at UFC London to send a message to the rest of the heavyweight division.
To say that former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is complimentary about one of his fellow heavyweights would be an understatement. Tom Aspinall had his rapid rise to the top stalled last summer with a serious knee injury. The England fighter suffered the setback just 15 seconds into a main event bout against Curtis Blaydes in London. Last weekend, Aspinall returned to the O2 a year after the difficult night, ready to immediately remind the division of his presence. He finally did just that in emphatic fashion, knocking out Marcin Tybura in less than two minutes. In the aftermath, the Manchester native charted his desired path to the belt, expressing his interest in fighting the winner of next headliner Ciryl Gane against Sergei Spivak in Paris before challenging the great Jon Jones.
Tom Aspinall will beat Jon Jones
During a recent interview with Sky Sports, Michael Bisping shared his thoughts on Tom Aspinall’s successful return to action. After praising his compatriot’s main event on July 22, “The Count” turned his attention to a potential showdown between Aspinall and Jones. With the Rochester native establishing himself as a leading contender in the GOAT debate due to two reigns at light heavyweight and a dominant finish at heavyweight earlier this year, Bisping expects what Aspinall is going through.
“Tom Aspinall was absolutely fantastic. This is one of the best performances I have ever seen from a heavyweight,” Bisping said. “Tom just blew through him (Tybura) like he was nothing. And I believe one hundred percent that he will be the champion. In fact, I know he will be the champion, unless he gets injured or bad luck happens.
“Jon Jones is the heavyweight champion. He’s an amazing fighter,” Bisping continued. “He is one of the greatest of all time. (But) I don’t think he can stand up to Tom. I think Tom will do the same to Jon Jones as he did to Marcin Tybura. I don’t think he can stop Tom Aspinall. He’s so good, he’s so excited, and he’s just a great guy. »
