Shamil Gasanov picked up a unanimous decision victory against Martin Nguyen at ONE 171: Qatar.
The Dagestani submission specialist beat the former two-division MMA world champion in a clash marred by a slow pace and little action.
Still, Gasanov did just enough to capture an important victory – his fourth in a row – to make a case for himself as a future challenger for the ONE Featherweight MMA world title.
After the win, the 29-year-old, who owns a 5-1 promotional record and owned a clean record when he signed for ONE Championship, asked for a rematch against Garry Tonon, the only man who beat him throughout his career.
