Undefeated Turkish fighter Shamil Erdogan picked up another impressive win at ONE Championship, finishing former two-division world champion Aung La N Sang at ONE 168: Denver.
Erdogan was in full control of the bout, using his wrestling skills since the opening bell to drag his opponent onto the canvas and nullify his favored stand-up game.
In the first round, the decorated Turkish wrestler kept his grip tight on Aung La, holding the latter’s back and managing to get on top twice, almost finishing his opponent with consecutive punches in the dying moments of the first round.
In the second round, Erdogan showcased his markedly improved striking, hitting his opponent hard with punches and kicks to the body. As a worn-out Aung La tried to respond with strikes, Erdogan caught him off guard, dropping him to the canvas again.
This time, Erdogan found himself on top of Aung La and went for the ground-and-pound, battering the veteran with elbows and punches until referee Herb Dean called for a stoppage at 2:48 of the second round.
With this TKO win, Erdogan picks up his second win of two fights at ONE after a KO victory on his debut against China’s Fan Rong. The victory also improves the 34-year-old Turkish fighter’s spotless overall MMA record to 10-0 and may be set to challenge for Anatoly Malykhin’s ONE Middleweight MMA world championship in the future.
