Revisiting Azerbaijan’s Muay Thai Star Akif Guluzada’sRise in ONE
After putting in impressive performances at ONE Championship’s weekly fight series ONE Friday Fights, rising Muay Thai star Akif Guluzada is set to make his debut in the martial arts organization’s monthly fight series, ONE Fight Nights.
Azerbaijan’s Guluzada, who represents Team Mehdi Zatout, will face Sean Climaco of the United States in a flyweight Muay Thai contest at ONE Fight Night 31: Kongthoranee vs Nong-O II in the morning hours of Saturday, May 3.
Guluzada scored three impressive wins at ONE Friday Fights, raising his overall professional record to 18-2. We review the 19-year-old fighter’s big victories below.
1. Guluzada Scores Easy Victory Over Yasumoto – OFF72
Guluzada dominated Haruto Yasumoto throughout three rounds on his debut at ONE Friday Fights 72. In a 58 Kg catchweight kickboxing bout, the Azerbaijani unleashed ruthless combinations and maintained his aggression until the final bell rang to capture a unanimous decision win.
2. Guluzada Knocks Out Samigdam in the First Round – OFF85
In his second fight, Guluzada finished SamingdamLooksuanmuaythai in the second round at ONE Friday Fights 85. In a flyweight Muay Thai clash, scored three knockdowns to win via TKO at 2:41 of the opening round.
3. Guluzada Knocks Out Puengluang, Earns Contract – OFF94
Guluzada produced one of the best knockouts of this year at ONE Friday Fights 94. In a flyweight Muay Thai contest, the Azerbaijani star dominated again, finishing Puengluang Baanramba with a spectacular spinning back elbow at 1:17 in the second round.
After the win, Gulazada earned a big contract to compate on ONE’s global roster and improved his overall record to 18-2 and 3-0 in ONE Championship.
