French fighter Oumar Sy, who remains undefeated with a 2-0 record in the UFC, showcased an impressive performance in his last fight in Paris. During an interview, he clarified important points regarding his performance and development.
A rise that cannot be compared! Oumar Sy, a light heavyweight fighter, has maintained a perfect record since starting in mixed martial arts (MMA), with 11 wins, including two in the UFC. His latest victory came through a unanimous decision over Da Woon Jung at UFC Paris on September 2, 2024.
During the fight, Oumar suffered a twisted ankle but continued to fight. As he explained during the “AB Show”: “I had a big sprain at the end of the first round, but I decided not to tell my coaches and just pushed through. The plan was to focus on calf kicks, but with the injury, I had to reduce my activity and focus more on movement and disguise.”
Climbing the global rankings Thanks to this crucial win, Oumar climbed the global light heavyweight rankings: “I was ranked 40th, and now I’m 30th.”
A strong stance towards the media When asked about his view on the development of mixed martial arts, particularly among amateurs, Oumar took the opportunity to respond to the media. He stated: “I’m not reserved, it’s just my personality. I’m here to fight, nothing else.”
He also criticized the media, especially RMC: “I have nothing against them, but they made an unacceptable comparison between me and Ciryl Gane. I am Oumar Sy, not a ‘new Ciryl Gane’. When I saw that, I felt like the media was against me, but fortunately, they corrected it.”
