Michael Chandler, ranked No. 6 in the UFC lightweight division, shared his predictions for the upcoming bout between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan.
Makhachev is the reigning lightweight champion after winning the title against Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 in October 2022. He has successfully defended his title twice, including a submission victory over Dustin Poirier last June.
Chandler expects Makhachev to face Tsarukyan, who previously lost to him in a unanimous decision in 2019.
Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s show, Chandler stated, “I have a feeling that Islam will fight for me. He has developed significantly in his last two bouts. If he can take Tsarukyan down, I believe he can impose his control.”
However, Chandler cautioned that the match may not be easy, adding, “I’m not saying he’ll dominate Tsarukyan, but I believe he’ll definitely win. Islam has made noticeable progress since their last encounter.”

In related news, Chandler will return to the octagon at UFC 309 on November 16, where he will face former champion Charles Oliveira, and the winner of this bout is expected to be the next contender for Makhachev or Tsarukyan, making both matches crucial for the future of the lightweight division.

"Islam is a very good fighter, but he can be beaten in boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and on the ground.
Unlike Khabib at his peak, who was so superior in wrestling that attacking him in that area was futile." pic.twitter.com/HGmbcFOMat
