Michael Chandler gives Tony Ferguson advice after losing to Nate Diaz

Michael Chandler is worried about Tony Ferguson and thinks he needs a break after his latest loss.

Tony Ferguson fought at UFC 279 and lost via submission to Nate Diaz. Initially, ‘El Cucuy’ was scheduled to fight Li Jingliang, but following Khamzat Chimaev’s missed weigh-in, the card was completely turned upside down.

After his loss, some fighters and analysts like Daniel Cormier called on Tony Ferguson to retire, but the latter is not ready yet. And Michael Chandler isn’t asking Ferguson to retire.

He thinks that a fighter should have his free will without anyone intervening in his decision. But beyond that, the Missouri native thinks Tony Ferguson needs some rest and time off:

“I never want to tell a man what to do with his career. I love Tony as a fan of what he’s done. He’s been an absolute, awesome joy to watch in all of his years in the UFC. Obviously, having the opportunity to compete against him was great. I wanted this opportunity, and it came along and worked out well for me. Like you said, against Nate he didn’t get knocked out, and honestly I’d say he won the fight in a lot of ways. I think if that fight had gone two more rounds and if he kept chewing on Nate’s front leg that fight would have been the scorecards and it wasn’t as dominant a win as a lot of people make it out to be. the way it ended, with Nate submitting it. I never want to tell a guy what to do, but I wish him the best. And now he needs to rest and enjoy his free time before making a decision.”
