Anissa Meksen’s scheduled ONE Strawweight Kickboxing world title bout against Jackie Buntan is officially off.
Meksen and Buntan were going to face each other in the main event of ONE Fight Night 23, which kicks off at 3:00 AM Mecca on Saturday July 6.
However, Buntan suffered an injury which will sideline the Filipino-American and cancel the planned fight.
This means the Algerian kickboxing icon, 36, will have to wait for her second world title shot at ONE Championship.
Long regarded as one of the top female kickboxing stars in the world, Meksen failed in her first attempt to win a world title at ONE last December, losing to Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom as the young Thai athlete won the inaugural ONE Atomweight Kickboxing world championship.
The Algerian veteran, who owns an impressive 103-6 overall professional record, has a decorated career having won the WMPF Muay Thai World Championship, WAKO Pro Flyweight World Championship, the Glory Women’s Super Bantamweight World Title and the IKSA K-1 Bantamweight World Championship.
With Meksen vs Buntan off the fight card, ONE Championship has elevated the Interim ONE Lightweight MMA world title bout between former champion Ok Rae Yoon and undefeated Turkish newcomer Alibeg Rasulov to the main event.
The winner between the South Korean and Turkish athletes will face divisional champion Christian Lee in a title unification bout at a future date.
ONE Fight Night 23 kicks off at 3:00 AM Mecca on Saturday, July 6, and is broadcast live on beIN SPORTS in the MENA region.
