Khabib Nurmagomedov can never stay away from his friend. Indeed, the former UFC lightweight champion will complete Makhachev’s training.
Although he stepped away from his coaching role last year, former undisputed lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will be on hand for the remaining two weeks of teammate Islam Makhachev’s training camp to to help prepare the current champion for his title defense against Charles Oliveira at UFC 294. As we recall, Nurmagomedov is a pillar of the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose and he guided his training partner and friend close to the vacant lightweight throne in October last year.
Khabib Nurmagomedov to the rescue
Khabib Nurmagomedov has been confirmed to travel to the Middle East to help Makhachev finish his training camp, ahead of UFC 294:
“He (Khabib Nurmagomedov) will come tomorrow and train with us in the camp,” Islam Makhachev told ESPN MMA in a recent interview ahead of UFC 294. “He will not be my coach and will not be in my corner, but he will be there to help us… We come here, about 40 guys, the whole team. I don’t know where he will be on fight day, but the next two weeks he will be there. »
“I miss the time when we trained together, when he (Khabib Nurmagomedov) fought, when I fought,” Islam Makhachev explained. “When he became coach two years ago, he put pressure on us, you know? We did exercises, almost ten rounds of sparring. And after all this work, after an hour and a half, he said to us: “Okay, now five rounds of grappling”.
With Khabib as his lucky charm, Islam Makhachev intends to once again finish Charles Oliveira who is complaining about the location of the fight.
