11 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The fight has been announced by the UFC for months, but now it seems that all parties are in agreement and the highly anticipated fight will happen. Jon Jones (27-1 MMA, 21-1 UFC) won the heavyweight title on his return to the octagon after a three-year layoff at UFC 285 in March, quickly submitting Ciryl Gane to the first round.
‘Bones’ moved up to heavyweight after an incredible run at light heavyweight, leaving the title vacant in 2020.
Jones captured the vacant heavyweight title by quickly defeating Ciryl Gane via first-round submission at UFC 285. He returned after a three-year hiatus to prepare his physique for the move to the heavyweight division.
Jon Jones immediately called Miocic following his victory and the fight was finally arranged. After months of speculation, along with other proposed opponents for Jones’ first defense, the two legends will square off in one of the biggest fights of 2023.
Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic to headline UFC return to MSG Miocic returns after more than two years of absence in the octagon. He lost by knockout to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 and opted out of an interim title fight later that year. Before falling to Ngannou, Miocic defended his title by winning his trilogy with UFC hall of famer Daniel Cormier.
He reclaimed the title in their rematch at UFC 241 by fourth-round TKO. Jones is considered by many to be the best UFC fighter of all time.
Miocic is also considered the best heavyweight in MMA history.
