The UFC Vegas 75 headliner – Jared Cannonier vs. Marvin Vettori – drew a reaction from the current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
In the main event of UFC Vegas 75, Marvin Vettori and Jared Cannonier faced off in a middleweight clash. And it was the American who won.
@ufcanz After an absolute slug fest, #JaredCannonier gets it done! Tha Killa Gorilla comes out on top with a record-breaking significant strike output over MarvinVettori! 😱
Round 1: On a big left, Marvin Vettori seriously touches the American, who falters and loses his support. Vettori tries to finish the fight, but Jared Cannonier resists well. In turn, ‘The Killa Gorilla’ touches the Italian’s chin with a nice right. The two men exchange very hard blows.
Round 2: Aggressive, Cannonier goes into battle. He puts pressure on Marvin Vettori and manages to put him on his back. In ground & pound, he inflicts damage on the Italian, who seems helpless in this situation. Standing, ‘The Italian Dream’ has no more respondent, and the American is busy to finish the fight. In this one-sided round, Jared Cannonier couldn’t finish the fight…
Round 3: After his miracle survival, Marvin Vettori returns and tries to take the center of the octagon. But Jared Cannonier stays on his rhythm and sends a large volume of varied strikes. At ease in striking, the American even manages to score a takedown. Extremely scarred in the face, the Italian tries to fight, but without success.
Round 4: Jared Cannonier changes level and validates a new takedown on the Italian. Completely overwhelmed and diminished, Vettori gets hit all the time. He tries to put away, but without much success… The American sends an impressive number of strikes on his opponent, but fails to put an end to hostilities.
Round 5: The Italian has no choice but to finish the fight to win. Against, Vettori takes a big right and Cannonier takes the opportunity to capitalize. Without a solution, ‘The Italian Dream’ continues to suffer and be affected. In a dominant position on the ground, the American inflicts a real ground & pound punishment on his opponent.
Victory for Jared Cannonier by unanimous decision (49-45, 49-45, 48-46).
“Yeah, man, we get paid for those moments,” Cannonier told media after his win against Vettori. “I’m more than happy to step in for that opportunity and get paid even if I don’t fight.
“You still get paid a little bit, so I’m happy with that, and I wouldn’t mind a trip to Sydney. I’ve never been to Australia before, I’ve always wanted to go.”
At UFC 293 in Sydney, Adesanya is expected to fight the winner of July’s clash between Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis.
Adesanya first won the UFC middleweight title with a TKO of Robert Whittaker in 2019, and he retained the belt against the former champion with a points win in their rematch last February.
