Undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya appeared wholly surprised by Jared Cannonier’s performance throughout last night’s UFC Vegas 75 headliner with Marvin Vettori – with the surging contender turning in a hugely active striking display.
UFC Vegas 75 headliner Jared Cannonier vs Marvin Vettori has drawn a reaction from current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Saturday night’s main event turned out to be an entertaining fight both ways. Vettori took on Cannonier in a five-round bout at the UFC Apex Facility in Paradise, Nevada. The fight lasted 25 minutes and was thrilling with Cannonier delivering heavy blows to Vettori throughout the fight. But “The Italian Dream” showed courage, managing to hold the five rounds despite heavy damage.
Israel Adesanya is not impressed
In the end, “The Killa Gorilla” saw his hand raised via unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 49-45, 49-45 and 48-46 in his favor.
Cannonier made history by breaking the UFC record for most punches landed in a UFC middleweight bout. The 39-year-old fighter delivered 241 significant blows to his opponent in the 25 minutes of the bout.
Israel Adesanya shared the octagon with Marvin Vettori and Jared Cannonier. ‘The Last Stylebender’ first faced Vettori in April 2018, and the New Zealander walked away with a split decision victory.
Their second matchup came at UFC 263 in June 2021, this time with the UFC title on the line. Once again, Adesanya got the better of “The Italian Dream” by earning a dominant unanimous decision. Cannonier and Adesanya squared off for the middleweight title at UFC 276 in July 2022.
