Israel Adesanya has returned to the Jon Jones case and thinks their past squabbles aren’t over yet.
Israel Adesanya emerged victorious in April from his fight against Alex Pereira and reclaimed his middleweight title with a stunning knockout. Since then, he is still officially awaiting his future opponent, who should logically be the winner of the fight between Robert Whittaker and Dricus du Plessis. And for this fight, Adesanya already has a favorite that we let you discover here.
Jon Jones, meanwhile, is also awaiting an official opponent for his next Octagon appearance, and spends his free time calling out Tyson Fury. He even asked yesterday that the UFC organize this fight, whether in MMA or boxing.
And for Adesanya, even if the hatchet is buried with Jon Jones, it is not impossible that they face each other one day. On The MMA Hour, he opened up about his rivalry with Jones while admitting they don’t like each other and the friction between them is certainly not over:
“I never had a conversation with this guy, ever. So how am I going to become friends or boyfriends with someone I’ve never spoken to? We railed against each other. I don’t like him, he doesn’t like me, but we respect our respective skills. I was a fan of his even before he was in the UFC, he was the youngest champion in the UFC, he did a lot of good things for his career. Then he called out to me and I was like, ‘What have I done to you?’, so I returned the favor. We argued a bit on Twitter, which was fun. But, you know, the story is not over.
It is, of course, unlikely that the two men will ever face off, but Adesanya leaves the door open for further tussles with Jones. And knowing the characters of both fighters, that wouldn’t be surprising.
