Islam Makhachev, reigning UFC lightweight champion, will put his belt back on the line on June 2, during UFC 302. The Dagestani will face number 3 in the division, Dustin Poirier. The latter is coming off a big victory by knockout in the second round over Frenchman Benoît Saint Denis, and will contest the third title shot of his career.
Dustin Poirier has already failed twice in his attempt to win the lightweight title, once by being submitted by Khabib, the other by Charles Oliveira. Islam Makhachev knocked out Alexander Volkanovski last October at UFC 294.
Islam Makhachev gives his prediction for UFC 302
The guillotine is one of Dustin Poirier’s favorite attacks when trying to take him to the ground. The American had tried to submit Makhachev’s close friend Khabib with this technique, and repeated it against BSD. Islam Makhachev expects ‘The Diamond’ to tempt her again. During a recent interview, the champion shared his prediction for the fight.
Prior to being officially booked vs. Dustin Poirier at #UFC302, champ Islam Makhachev made a simple prediction. 😅
"He will try to give me guillotine, and I will take his back and choke him."
