UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has given his prediction for the fight between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.
UFC 291 (see map) takes place July 29 at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the main event of the evening, the No. 2 lightweight Dustin Poirier will face No. 3 Justin Gaethje. The two men will fight for the BMF (Baddest Motherf*cker) belt, formerly held by Jorge Masvidal. Poirier and Gaethje have faced each other before in 2018, with ‘The Diamond’ earning the victory by 4th round TKO after a huge war.
During an interview with former two-time UFC champion Daniel Cormier, lightweight king Islam Makhachev gave his prediction on the upcoming fight between two of the UFC’s most entertaining athletes.
pear vs. Gaethje: Islam Makhachev’s prognosis
“I think Poirier will beat him,” Makhachev said. “What does Gaethje have more than Poirier? Nothing. Poirier has good boxing, better than Gaethje, that’s all. It’s gonna be a boxing match. In his fight against Fiziev, Gaethje looked good. But with Poirier, it will be different. Fiziev and Chandler are good. But Rafael Fiziev is not at the top level. »
For his next lightweight title defense, Islam Makhachev could face the winner of Poirier vs. Gaethje 2. However, former champion Charles Oliveira is also in the discussion, he who rolled over Beneil Dariush at UFC 289.
