Iran’s Parham Gheirati picked up another impressive win at ONE Friday Fights, extending his undefeated streak in ONE Championship’s weekly fight series to 5-0.
In a Bantamweight Muay Thai contest, Gheirati dominated tough Thai opponent Yodphuba Petkiatpet, pressing forward from the opening bell of the main event of ONE Friday Fights 81.
The action-packed first round saw the two fighters attacking with a wide range of strikes at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Gheirati drove forward with kicks while Yodphuba countered with a hook to the Iranian’s head and a punch to his body.
Gheirati attacked relentlessly with punching combinations, managing to drop his opponent to the canvas a little more than a minute into the first round. Gheirati searched for the knockout incessantly, but Yodphuba stopped him with the clinch before injuring the Iranian over his right eye. The round closed with the two fighters trading elbows at close range.
The two men continued their battle at a frantic pace, trading punches. Gheirati struck with punches and elbows with his Yodphuba’s back to the ropes, but the latter made a comeback in the second half of the second stanza, picking up the pace as the Iranian slowed down.
The third round saw Gheirati press forward again, targeting Yodphuba with punching combinations and high kicks. In one of the fights’ many highlights, the Iranian hit his Thai opponent with a barrage of punches before launching a knee strike to his face.
Despite a swelling over his left eye, the Thai continued to show great resilience as Gheirati continued to drive forward, attempting to finish Yodphuba with flying knees and high kicks.
In the end, the judges awarded Gheirati the unanimous decision victory, his fifth in a row in ONE Friday Fights where the 20-year-old Iranian finished three of his five opponents.
Gheirati improved his overall professional record to 14-5 and moved a step closer towards earning a huge contract to join ONE Championship.
