Ian Garry and Khamzat Chimaev are two potential future UFC champions. One is ranked number 10 at welterweight (Garry), the other number 9 at middleweight (Chimaev). Furthermore, Ian Garry has indicated that he would like to face Khamzat Chimaev in the future.
In an interview with “MMA On Point”, Ian Garry recounted his meeting with Khamzat Chimaev. The two athletes fought at UFC 273, in April 2022, and therefore crossed paths during Fight Week. According to the 26-year-old Irishman, things almost turned sour…
Khamzat Chimaev vs. Ian Garry
“I’ll tell you a funny story about Khamzat. We got in the elevator, my wife and I are there, we press the button, the doors open, Khamzat and his wife get in… I would love to have a fight here. I would have liked to fight Khamzat in the middle of an elevator. The story would have been fucking cool. »
Ian Garry continued: “My wife looks at me with her eyes bulging and says, ‘Do it, fight him’. In my head, I tell myself that my teammates are going to fight him tomorrow. I’m not going to spoil this. There are two women here. He and I will die if we fight in an elevator. We get out of the elevator and my wife looks at me and says, ‘You’re a bitch.’ »
Fortunately, Ian Garry and Khamzat Chimaev did not come to blows. A fight between these two monsters in such a small space could have had devastating effects. The one we nickname ‘The Future’ will have the opportunity to let off some steam on December 16, during UFC 296. Indeed, he will face the number 8 in his division, Vicente Luque. We have also seen the Irishman training with his compatriot, the famous Conor McGregor.
