Five Facts About Moroccan Muay Thai Star Elmehdi El Jamari
Morocco’s Muay Thai star Elmehdi El Jamari hopes to follow up his knockout ONE Championship debut victory with another impressive win at ONE Fight Night 32.
El Jamari will face Aliff Sor Dechapan in the morning hours of Saturday, June 7 in a strawweight Muay Thai battle that could decide the next world title challenger. ONE Fight Night 32 kicks off at 4:00 AM Mecca and will be broadcast live via beIN SPORTS and watch.onefc.com.
Before El Jamari enters the ONE ring for the second time, let’s look at five facts about the rising Muay Thai star and potential world title challenger.
1. Dominance in National and Regional Championships
El Jamari’s prowess in Muay Thai is evident from his remarkable track record: he has clinched the Moroccan Muay Thai championship title seven times, the Arab and Africa Muay Thai championships twice each. These accomplishments underscore his dominance in both national and regional circuits.
2. He is a World Champion
In addition to dominating the regional Muay Thai scene, El Jamari captured the K-1 Muay Thai belt as well as the WBC Muay Thai world championship. Through fighting in Spain, UAE, France, Belgium, and now Thailand, he has established himself as a Muay Thai star worldwide.
3. He Owns a Near-Perfect Record
The 27-year-old Moroccan has fought more than 120 amateur fights and owns a near-perfect 27-1 overall professional record, having added a sensational first-round knockout win over Thongpoon PK Saenchai on his ONE Championship debut.
4. Fighting in Lumpinee Was His Dream
At ONE Fight Night 32, El Jamari will fight inside Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium for the second time after making his debut in the iconic venue in April.
“I always wanted to fight inside the Lumpinee Stadium. I used to watch Lumpinee fights on YouTube. Not just any fighter gets to fight at Lumpinee. It is the best arena in the world for Muay Thai. The best moment in my career was when I was walking inside Lumpinee towards the ring,” he said.
5. He Wants to Become a World Champion in ONE Championship
Despite focusing on his preparations for his fight against the talented Aliff, the Moroccan already has one eye on two-sport world champion Prajanchai’s Muay Thai belt.
“I think Prajanchai is a very experienced fighter. But his time is up. He is aging and this is the time for a new generation of fighters. I hope I will defeat Aliff first and then Prajanchai, too,” El Jamari said.
