Five Facts about Algerian Muay Thai Star Brice Delval

Five Facts about Algerian Muay Thai Star Brice Delval

Algeria’s Muay Thai star Brice Delval returns to ONE Championship in the main event of ONE Friday Fights 109 this Friday, May 23.

Delval will face Yod-IQ Pimolsri in a bantamweight Muay Thai contest in the latest installment of ONE’s weekly fight series, which kicks off at 3:30 AM Mecca and will be broadcast live via beIN SPORTS and watch.onefc.com.

Before he clashes with his Thai opponent, we reveal five facts about Delval.

1. He’s Algerian-French

Delval was born on July 15, 1999 and grew up on the French island of Reunion, off the cost of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. A hyperactive child, he was encouraged by his parents to channel his energy into boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai.

Delval had his first Muay Thai bout in Thailand at the age of 12 and then left school to pursue his dream as a professional Muay Thai fighter in Paris.

2. He’s a Close Friend of Muay Thai Star Elias Mahmoudi

After moving to Paris, Delval trained at Mahmoudi Gym alongside compatriot and fellow ONE athlete Elias Mahmoudi with whom he has a close relationship.

“Since I was young, Elias and I have fought together all around the world. We’ve been to Japan, the USA, England, Belgium, The Netherlands. I’ve really traveled around the world with him,” Delval said.

3. He is a Muay Thai Champion

Delval’s talent shone early on, and he picked up big wins in his amateur career before winning his first title in S1 in 2016. Recently, he became interim Muay Thai Lumpinee champion (68 Kg).

4. He Had Two Fights in ONE Championship

In 2019, Delval made his ONE Championship debut at Immortal Triumph in which he challenged the legendary Nong-O Hama for the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai world title.

Despite that Delval suffered two losses in ONE against Nong-O and Muangthai PK Saenchai in early 2020, the Algerian produced a solid display in both fights, losing via split decision.

5. He Owns a 33-9 Record

In the last two years, Delval made a comeback, winning his three matchups, including the most recent outing in which he secured the Lumpinee Muay Thai belt.

With these wins, the 25-year-old raised his record to 33-9, and he will be hoping to improve it further this Friday.
