Ilias Ennahachi hopes to inch closer towards earning a shot at the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing world championship with a win against Petchtanong Petchfergus at ONE 171: Qatar.
Ennahachi and Petchtanong clash in a bantamweight kickboxing contest inside the Lusail Sports Arena in ONE Championship’s second Qatar event on February 20.
The 28-year-old Moroccan improved his ONE record to 5-0 with a deserved unanimous decision victory against second-ranked bantamweight kickboxer Hiroki Akimoto in September.
Meanwhile, his opponent is an established star and former world champion with an impressive 359-56 overall professional record.
The 39-year-old veteran scored a knockout victory against former divisional king Alaverdi Ramazanov in June after spending two years away from the promotion. Then, his bout against Algeria’s Nabil Anane in December was cancelled after he was hospitalized ahead of the clash.
If Ennahachi manages to beat Petchtanong, then he may be next in line to face the winner of the ONE 171: Qatar main event as ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing world champion Jonathan Haggerty defends his title against Chinese veteran Wei Rui.
ONE 171: Qatar kicks off at 5:00 PM Mecca on Thursday, 20 February and will be broadcast live via beIN SPORTS.
