Dream fight: Khamzat Chimaev Eyes Historic Bout with Jon Jones : « Je gagnerais ! »

Khamzat Chimaev, ranked number 9 at UFC middleweight, hopes to meet heavyweight champion Jon Jones in the octagon.

Khamzat Chimaev is coming off a majority decision victory over Kamaru Usman in October at UFC 294 (see fight summary). With this success at middleweight, ‘Borz’ landed the division’s next title shot. He also confirmed that he will face the winner of the fight between the reigning champion, Sean Strickland, and the number 2, Dricus Du Plessis, who will face each other this weekend at UFC 297.

In the meantime, Khamzat is recovering after suffering major health problems. In a recent interview with Smile 2 Jannah, the Chechen discussed his future in combat sports. So, Khamzat answered a question: what is his dream fight?

“It’s Jon Jones. However, he is currently the best fighter in the world. He has the most title defenses, he is a champion in two weight classes, he has never lost. Was the youngest UFC champion. If you talk about MMA, everyone knows Jon Jones. So he is the best in history. Nobody is like him. »

He continued: “Of course, he is the dream partner for anyone who wants to make history. I’m younger than him, so I hope he doesn’t retire soon. I want to get this fight. I like him, I like his training, I watch his training and I learn a lot of things from him too. We’re talking about training, so maybe we can train together. He’s a nice guy, always joking. »

“Of course, I think I would win. It’s a tough fight for everyone. He fought twice with my training partner, Alexander Gustafsson. They also had good fights… Of course I want to fight this guy. It will be a big story if we fight. »

Like many other fighters, Khamzat Chimaev admires Jon Jones. The latter reigned over the UFC light heavyweight division for many years, winning 14 title fights. In March 2023, at UFC 285, Jones became the heavyweight champion by submitting Ciryl Gane in the 1st round.
