Dana White blames Miami Heat mascot ‘Burnie’ for stunt that left him hospitalized by Conor McGregor’s punches

UFC president Dana White doesn’t understand why an NBA mascot would let Conor McGregor hit him.

‘Notorious’ hasn’t fought since breaking his leg during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021 and hasn’t recorded a win since beating Donald Cerrone 18 months prior.

UFC President Dana White has commented on the hospitalization of an NBA mascot because of Conor McGregor.

On Friday, June 9, 2023, Conor McGregor traveled to Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Miami, Florida. During a promotional skit for McGregor’s TIDL Sport merchandise, the Irish superstar punched out the Miami Heat’s mascot, known as “Burnie”. When “Bernie” fell to the ground, McGregor punched him again. However, not everything went according to plan and the man under the mascot was sent to the hospital. The UFC president was asked about the matter.

Everyone on the planet thought it was for fun, until it was revealed that the person wearing the mascot costume had been sent to a nearby hospital. He was given pain medication and released from hospital soon after.

During the UFC 289 press conference, Dana White was asked what he thought of this skit gone wrong.

“I also saw Deontay Wilder’s. It’s not normal for mascots to want to get punched in the face by professional fighters,” White told reporters. ” What are you waiting for ? Want to get hit? What are these mascots made of? Unless I was the Golden Knights mascot… I wouldn’t want professional fighters punching me in the face if I was a mascot. It’s not the smartest thing in the world. »

White is right that mascots want to get hit, and hopefully that dumb idea will end after this latest fiasco between fighter and mascot.
