UFC has booked a bantamweight main event between Cory Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov to headline a Fight Night card Aug. 5 in Nashville, the promotion announced Thursday.
Two of the bantamweight division’s top fighters, Cory Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov, will be in the spotlight when the UFC returns to Tennesse.
While rumors have been talking about this bantamweight shock for several weeks, the meeting between Cory Sandhagen (16-4) and Umar Nurmagomedov (16-0) has been formalized by Dana White, the president of the UFC. The two men will face off in the main event of UFC Nashville on August 5 at Bridgestone Arena.
The organization’s last appearance in the state of Tennessee dates back to March 23, 2019, when former welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson won by KO in the second round against the ex-lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis.
Cory Sandhagen, currently ranked number 4 in the bantamweight division, has won his last two fights beating title contenders Song Yadong and Marlon Vera. Before that, the 31-year-old American remained on two consecutive defeats against former champions, Petr Yan and TJ. Dillashaw.
Facing him, Umar Nurmagomedov, 27, will play the first UFC main event of his career. The ex-lightweight champion’s cousin, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has won all of his UFC fights winning by knockout over Raoni Barcelos in his last Octagon appearance.
