UFC superstar Conor McGregor took the opportunity to poke fun at Khabib Nurmagomedov after his cousin, Umar, pulled out of UFC Nashville.
Umar Nurmagomedov was scheduled to face Cory Sandhagen as part of UFC Fight Night on August 5. But he reportedly pulled out of the fight with a shoulder injury and the UFC is actively looking for a replacement. Cory Sandhagen is expected to stay on the card and could potentially get a title shot if they win in Nashville. Umar is undefeated since joining the UFC and some believe he has the potential to become a world champion. McGregor, who has had his share of history with the Nurmagomedovs, disagrees with that assessment.
Conor McGregor attacks the Nurmagomedov family
In a recent deleted tweet, Conor McGregor lashed out at Umar Nurmagomedov’s forfeit from UFC Nashville.
“Runs in the family,” McGregor tweeted.
Conor McGregor lost to Khabib at UFC 229 via fourth-round submission. Both stars had one of the most passionate buildups in UFC history, which often ended in disaster. McGregor and Khabib will probably never see each other, and the Irishman continues to take every opportunity to poke fun at his former rival.
The Irishman hasn’t fought since losing to Dustin Poirier via doctor’s stoppage at UFC 264. He is scheduled to face Michael Chandler for his comeback bout, but nothing is officially scheduled as of yet. Umar Nurmagomedov is one of the best bantamweights in the UFC, with recent victories over Brian Kelleher and Raoni Barcelos. It’s unclear how long he’ll be out to deal with his health issues, but upon his return he’ll get a fight against a top 5 in his class.
