Conor McGregor calls for a new rule in the UFC… Discover Dana White’s response

Conor McGregor sparked widespread debate during UFC 307 after proposing a new rule on his X account, suggesting the timing of control periods when fighters are inactive.

UFC 307 was full of major events, including a massive knockout by Joaquin Buckley against Stephen Thompson, as well as Alex Pereira’s victory over Khalil Rountree. However, the night was not without controversy, particularly after José Aldo’s split decision loss to Maurio Bautista.

Many felt that the American didn’t do enough to win, despite his control over the fight without inflicting significant damage on his opponent.

Dana White’s response after the event was clear, expressing his frustration with some of the judges’ decisions, particularly regarding Aldo’s fight and Julianna Peña’s victory over Raquel Pennington.

Regarding McGregor’s proposal, White said: “I think the referees should be more active in these situations, 100%, especially when a fighter is wasting time without attempting to finish the fight.

You can’t win just by controlling without trying to fight.”

Although White didn’t support the idea of “time monitoring,” he emphasized the importance of referees intervening when fighters are inactive, either on the ground or against the cage.
