Colby Covington claims Dustin Poirier and Khamzat Chimaev pushed him away, resulting in a lengthy layoff.
Colby Covington has a reason why he hasn’t fought since March 2022. Covington’s last fight was at UFC 272 where he beat Jorge Masvidal by decision. Since then, “Chaos” assures that he tried to get a fight, but no one wanted to face him, which explains why he was absent for more than a year and a half. However, according to Covington, he was offered Dustin Poirier and Khamzat Chimaev, but they both declined.
Colby Covington insults Chimaev and Poirier
“For my part, I have been ready since day one, since the fight against Jorge. I accepted all the fights that were offered to me. First it was Dustin, they wanted to do this fight,” Colby Covington told Chael Sonnen. “They saw the potential and a great fight, but Dustin is a bitch. He is afraid, he fled the challenge. We now know that he is just talking, and not taking on every challenge. Then it was Chimaev. I was ready to end the hype with Chimaev, but he’s scared. He is not professional. He’s a little moron. He fled the division. He is afraid to fight. He talks a lot online, but he doesn’t talk inside the octagon. He does not sign a contract and is not a professional“.
“There was no deal, and then they wanted The Ultimate Fighter. I accepted The Ultimate Fighter, and there’s only one person who can take it away from me. He took it from me, Conor. Then I was the reserve fighter in London,” Covington continued.
A fight between Colby Covington, Dustin Poirier and Khamzat Chimaev would have been a real fight. Unfortunately, according to “Chaos,” both men declined the offer and weren’t interested in a fight against him. Colby Covington is now set to face Leon Edwards for the welterweight title in the main event of UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
