Charles Oliveira, soon back on the throne?

At UFC 289, Charles Oliveira shocked the world once again by inflicting a 1st round TKO on Beneil Dariush. Now that he’s back in the hunt for the title, ‘do Bronx’ is on the hunt for his former tormentor, champion Islam Makhachev. We talk about all this in the 12th episode of the ActuMMA podcast!

During his career, Charles Oliveira has (almost) always been considered the outsider. At UFC 289, the Brazilian ended all debate by inflicting a 1st round TKO on No. 4 lightweight Beneil Dariush. Oliveira has asserted its place as No. 1, and is now seeking revenge on Islam Makhachev.

Charles Oliveira originally earned the belt by defeating Michael Chandler by TKO at UFC 262. After defending his title against Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje (the belt was actually vacant due to a missed weigh-in), ‘do Bronx’ fell to Islam Makhachev at UFC 280.

The record holder for submissions (16), finishes (20) and bonuses (19) in the UFC, Charles Oliveira is one of the most entertaining MMA fighters. In 13 fights, the Brazilian obtained 12 victories against the elite. Elsewhere, ‘do Bronx’ has defeated all of the current top 5 lightweights.

His rocky journey, his style in the octagon and his jovial personality have made Charles Oliveira a real fan favorite. With his victory over Beneil Dariush, the Brazilian positioned himself at the top of the list to obtain the next title-shot. The latter even challenged Islam Makhachev. ‘do Bronx’ wants the king’s head!
