Beaten by Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290, Brandon Moreno is eager to get his hands on his -56kg championship title.
This weekend, Brandon Moreno faced Alexandre Pantoja in the co-main event of UFC 290 in Las Vegas. The two men fought a real 5-round war in the potential fight of the year 2023 (see the summary here).
At the end of the 25 minutes of the meeting, Pantoja was declared the winner by split decision of the judges and therefore seized the championship flyweight belt then held by Moreno.
Although he was stripped of his title for the second time, the Mexican fighter intends to return to the throne of the flyweight division. Indeed, “The Assassin Baby” reassured his fans by promising a quick return to competition in order to revive after this setback.
“When this is all over, I promise you this will be the most watched Netflix movie ever,” Moreno wrote on social media. “I will be back soon my friends, much love to everyone. »
The match against Pantoja was Moreno’s fifth straight 125-pound title fight. It was his first title defense since his four fights against arch-rival Deiveson Figueiredo.
At 29, the Mexican now remains on a 0-3 record against Alexander Pantoja. He first lost to the Brazilian on The Ultimate Fighter in 2016, before being beaten again in their rematch at the UFC in 2018. This defeat also marked the end of the Moreno’s first stint in the world’s largest organization.
