BJJ Star Tye Ruotolo Will Debut in MMA Soon
ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling world champion Tye Ruotolo confirmed rumors of his plans to transition into mixed martial arts.
Ruotolo most recently retained his world title with a unanimous decision win over Canadian challenger and fellow BJJ black belt Dante Leon at ONE Fight Night 31: Kongthoranee vs Nong-O II.
The 22-year-old American is eager to follow in the footsteps of his twin brother, ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling world champion Kade Ruotolo, who has gone 3-0 since switching to MMA.
Asked about when he expects to make his MMA debut, Ruotolo said: “Very soon. Just working on some logistic side of things, but I can’t wait to scrap. I’m ready to go.”
Ruotolo, who owns a clean ONE record of 8-0, also said he is excited about a potential matchup against undefeated rising star Adrian “The Phenom” Lee, who is the younger brother to current two-division ONE MMA world champion Christian Lee and former ONE Women’s Atomweight MMA world champion Angela Lee.
“The Lee fight sounds interesting. Adrian Lee for the debut would be awesome. Whoever [ONE] wants to throw at my way, I’m ready to go, I’m excited to scrap, for sure,” Ruotolo said.
