Brazilian star Mayssa Bastos added ONE Women’s Atomweight Submission Grappling world title to her incredible trophy case with a hard-fought win against Danielle Kelly at ONE Fight Night 24.
Bastos scored a decision win over her American counterpart after a fast-paced world-class grappling contest at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.
The 26-year-old Brazilian attacked Kelly from the start, taking her opponent’s back. The American showed top defensive skills, evading the challenger’s attacks.
Kelly scored a catch for a deep inside heel hook, but Bastos quickly worked her way back, earning a catch to even the score at 1-1 while nearly securing a belly-down heel hook.
After time ran out, the judges awarded Bastos a unanimous decision victory, making her ONE Women’s Atomweight Submission Grappling world champion.
Bastos, who raised her career record to 119-12, was also awarded a performance bonus from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
