One month after a tragic road accident in Nigeria, British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua addressed the public for the first time in an emotional video, revealing the depth of his shock and grief over losing two key figures in his professional and personal life.
On December 29, 2025, Joshua’s life changed dramatically on a highway near Lagos when the vehicle he was in collided with a stationary truck. The accident claimed the lives of two of his closest collaborators: his personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
In a message posted on his YouTube channel on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Joshua, voice trembling, shared the sudden impact of the tragedy:
“This was the best way I could reach out to all of you around the world who have shown me so much love and support during this tragic period when we lost Latz and Sina in Nigeria. Everything we had planned to finish 2025 was turned upside down in an instant. It was completely unpredictable and beyond our control.”
Joshua stressed that the tragedy affects not only him but a wider circle of friends and families:
“It’s not just their parents or friends; we lost two pillars in our lives. The pain is immense.”
He emphasized his determination to support the families of the deceased and continue the work they had begun together:
“My goal is to help their families move forward and achieve their goals, even though they are no longer physically here. When I pray morning and night, I know they will continue to guide me spiritually. Physical strength alone will not be enough.”
On the sporting front, Joshua remains on a high note with a sixth-round knockout victory against Jake Paul. Yet, his future in the ring remains uncertain. Although retirement rumors surfaced after the tragedy, his words suggest he may not have closed the chapter on boxing just yet.
