ONE Championship announced a new date for the highly anticipated kickboxing clash between Anissa Meksen and Jackie Buntan.
Meksen and Buntan will face each other for the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight Kickboxing world championship at ONE 169: Malykhin vs Reug Reug which kicks off at 3:00 AM Mecca on Saturday, November 9.
The martial arts organization had postponed the bout, which was scheduled to take place in July, after Buntan was sidelined by injury.
The bout represents Meksen’s opportunity to add her first ONE belt to an impressive list of accolades. The 36-year-old veteran is a 17-time world champion and has won titles in reputable organizations such as ISKA and Glory.
Meksen had set her eyes on capturing the ONE Atomweight world title in her most recent promotional outing but suffered her first loss in ONE at the hands of Phetjeeja.
Despite the defeat, Meksen owns an impressive 103-6 overall record and a 3-1 promotional record and has every right to feel confident as she tries once again to land her first world championship.
Meanwhile, Buntan owns a 6-1 record at ONE Championship with her only loss coming via unanimous decision at the hands of the undefeated ONE Strawweight Muay Thai world champion Smilla Sundell.
Since her only defeat, Buntan picked up three wins against Amber Kitchen, Diandra Martin, and Martine Michieletto.
ONE 169: Malykhin vs Reug Reug kicks off at 3:00 AM on Saturday, November 9 and will be broadcast live via beIN SPORTS in the MENA region.
