Iran’s Amir Aliakbari suffered a disappointing defeat against Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida at ONE 169: Malykhin vs Reug Reug.
The two huge men were very cautious in the opening minute of the heavyweight MMA bout as Aliakbari failed to land any notable strikes on the Brazilian.
When the Iranian finally hit the Brazilian with a jab to the midsection, the latter went on the hunt for a submission.
The 17-time BJJ world champion caught Aliakbari’s hips with his two hands, but the Iranian used his strength to keep his opponent from controlling him on the ground.
Still, the Brazilian veteran held onto Aliakbari’s back. As the Iranian tried to stand up, “Buchecha” applied the rear naked choke, leaving Aliakbari no choice but to tap out at 3:15 in the first round.
With this loss, the 36-year-old Iranian’s MMA record drops to 14-4 while “Buchecha” raises his MMA record to 5-1 and keeps his finish rate at a perfect 100%.
