Rodtang Looking to “Bury” Takeru at ONE 172
Muay Thai megastar Rodtang Jitmuangnon is full of confidence ahead of his long-awaited super-fight against Japanese kickboxing icon Takeru Segawa at ONE 172.
After the pair’s scheduled fight in January last year was cancelled due to Rodtang’s injury, the pair will finally collide inside the Saitama Super Arena at ONE Championship’s huge show ONE 172: Takeru vs Rodtang on Sunday, March 23.
And having seen his two-sport king Superlek Kiatmoo9 pick up a unanimous decision win against Takeru in January 2024, Rodtang hopes to follow in his compatriot’s footsteps by capturing a memorable victory in front of the kickboxing star’s home crowd.
“When Takeru lost to Superlek, he said in an interview that it made him feel like he was dying alive. So in this fight, I will be the one to bury him six feet under,” Rodtang said.
Despite his debut loss, in which he put in a solid performance, Takeru quickly recovered with an impressive second-round knockout victory against Myanmar star Thant Zin last September.
Now, the fit and healthy 27-year-old former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai world champion has promised to deliver a performance worth all the hype around the fight.
“Takeru said he would fight as if it’s his last fight, and he came to ONE to fight me, so I am really happy to respond to him. This fight is going to be a barnburner. Everyone will definitely enjoy it,” Rodtang said.
