Jonathan Haggerty successfully defended his ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing world championship, defeating Wei Rui at ONE 171: Qatar.
Both men traded strikes across five rounds in a closely contested, fast-paced fight between two of the world’s best kickboxing talents.
The Chinese veteran controlled the first round and patiently found openings for his boxing combinations, but Haggerty turned the tide in the second round.
In the later rounds, Haggerty found his feet, showcasing his impressive striking abilities as his challenger slowed down.
In the end, the judges granted the 28-year-old British star the victory via unanimous decision.
With this win, Haggerty became the first man to defeat the Chinese star since 2018, snapping the challenger’s superb 21-win-streak.
More importantly, the win will give Haggerty a much-needed confidence boost after he had suffered a shock first-round loss and the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai world title to Superlek Kiatmoo9 in his previous fight.
