Christian Lee Happy with Performance After Return Against Alibeg Rasulov at ONE Fight Night 26
ONE two-division MMA world champion Christian Lee is satisfied with his performance against Alibeg Rasulov in the main event of ONE Fight Night 26: Lee vs Rasulov.
Lee made his long-awaited return to ONE Championship after a two-year-absence at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium in which he defended his ONE Lightweight MMA world championship against the undefeated Turkish competitor.
However, the bout ended after nearly ten minutes of fast-paced action after the 32-year-old Turkish challenger suffered an accidental eye poke that left him unable to continue, resulting in a no contest.
Despite the anticlimactic end, the 26-year-old Singaporean-American is delighted after delivering a five-star performance on his return.
“It felt great to be back in action. It was almost two years since I was last in there, and I felt good moving around in the ring. I was just hoping that the fight could have continued so I could have pushed for a finish,” Lee said.
“I don’t think I felt any ring rust. I do feel like I could have performed better, which I always do after every fight, but I do feel I was 100 percent on track to getting the finish there,” he added.
The no contest ruling means that “The Warrior”, who owns the biggest number of wins and finishes in ONE Championship, retained his lightweight MMA gold.
Lee insists that he was on course to beat Rasulov in the main event in the morning hours of December 7.
“I feel like I was winning the fight. I feel like I was landing the bigger shots. I was pushing forward while controlling the action in the ring. I feel like I was on track to wearing him down and taking him out,” Lee said.
