Michael Chiesa Triumphs Over Tony Ferguson in the First Round, Announcing New Challenges for “El Cucuy”

UFC Abu Dhabi: Michael Chiesa Defeats Tony Ferguson in the First Round, “El Cucuy” Announces Possible Retirement

In a highly anticipated main event at UFC Abu Dhabi, Tony Ferguson faced Michael Chiesa on the main card of Sandhagen vs. Nurmagomedov, where Ferguson lost in the first round via submission.

Prior to this fight, Ferguson was on a painful seven-fight losing streak and hadn’t won since 2020. He last lost to Paddy Pimblett by decision in December. Chiesa also entered the fight after three consecutive losses, with his most recent defeat coming by submission to Kevin Holland in July 2023.

First Round:

The round began with a few strikes from both fighters as they assessed each other. Chiesa then closed the distance, took Ferguson down, secured his back, and achieved a rear-naked choke.

Michael Chiesa defeated Tony Ferguson in the first round by submission at 3:44.

“El Cucuy”’s Imminent Retirement:

With this win, Chiesa secured a significant victory, while Tony Ferguson appears to be facing the end of his career. Ferguson now holds the record for the most consecutive losses in UFC history, with eight straight defeats. In an announcement via Daniel Cormier’s microphone, Ferguson hinted at retirement but has not made a final decision.

“I don’t want to retire. I really don’t want to. But I love the UFC and I don’t want to go anywhere else. So, I’m not going to give up both gloves; I’ll keep one on, and I’ll hold on to the other just in case.”
