Matt Brown: Fighting Jon Jones is ‘the only thing’ that will bring Francis Ngannou back to mixed martial arts

Francis Ngannou must return to MMA, but not against just anyone. And Matt Brown has a clear idea of who the ‘Predator’s opponent will be.

Ngannou’s stock has never been higher. Boxing and MMA experts gave Ngannou very little chance in his boxing match with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

“The Predator” not only knocked “The Gypsy King” down, but he almost defeated him in what most thought would be a one-sided fight. Fury won the bout via split decision, but Ngannou sure doesn’t feel like a loser.

Francis Ngannou impressed everyone during his boxing fight against Tyson Fury, even though he lost. It must be said that he even received praise from Dana White, even though relations between the two men are not in good shape.

And if the fight between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou would have generated catastrophic sales figures, the ‘Predator’ directly entered the top 10 of the WBC and said he wanted a rematch against Tyson Fury.

On the MMA side, if Francis Ngannou has said that he does not want to stop, for the moment, no opponent is offered to him. And for Matt Brown, there is only one that makes sense. Here’s which one (via MMA Fighting):

“If somehow, and we know it won’t happen, the UFC co-promotes with the PFL, we have to make a Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou fight. This is the greatest fight anyone can have in the history of MMA. Now is the time to think about it if they ever want to do that.”

“Obviously, Jon has to come back from his injury, and no offense to Stipe Miocic, and I’m friends with Stipe, I’m a huge Stipe fan, but if I’m Jon Jones, I go talk to Dana White and say : ‘Brother, let’s make this happen, let’s co-promote.’ It’s not going to kill the UFC. In my opinion, this will in no way make the PFL a competitor to the UFC.”

Of course, the idea is good, but it is highly unlikely, as Brown points out, that the UFC would agree to such a fight. For his part, Francis Ngannou is ready to face Stipe Miocic while awaiting the return of Jon Jones to the UFC, he himself declared this at the end of October…
